Breast lumps, cancer, body awareness and healing arts
Our bodies need awareness, total presence and love in order for the life giving energy to circulate freely, maintain and regenerate our organs and tissues. The lack of awareness in any part of the body leads to separation of that part from our main energy flow, and thus, its deterioration.
In a particular case of breast health problems, the scenario of losing awareness in breast tissues is multifaceted and is a result of the following factors: the root of the problem stems from the shame and unacceptance of breast exposure imposed by the society leading women to hiding their bodies behind a thick layer of clothes and underwear. The subject of breast exposure is suppressed to the point of avoiding it even in our speech. Wearing tight-fit, synthetic bras leads to a fixed position and the lack of interaction between breast tissues and the surroundings, the clothes, the air, attention from others, as a result, we lose any traces of body awareness associated with the area as the body learn to fully rely on the function of the bras and no attention is drawn to that area during most of the day. All the vitally important functions of the body to support and sustain the breast start diminishing. Any tightness in the bra is further suppressed by the mind and we learn to ignore the discomfort making it a normal part of our lives.
Sometime down the road, we don’t even feel that discomfort any longer as all the sensitivity has been ignored and suppressed to the point of a complete loss of awareness. If we have been diagnosed by a medical practitioner with a particular health problem and were given no choice but to rely on drugs or surgery, and we have accepted that lack of choice, along with the fear that settles in our body, we consciously gave away the power to restore our health by our own natural means, which is love and care for our body and total awareness of its beingness and its needs.
Where there is no awareness in the body, the vital, life-giving energy flows only to its bare minimum and this flow keeps diminishing overtime creating more permanent blockages, unless we bring our total awareness back. As our body is a very complex, interdependent system of physical organs and energy channels, a blockage in one part of the body leads to further physical, emotional and psychological imbalances.
And it’s not only women who suffer from this. We might have never looked into this issue from these perspective, but men suffer as much or even more from this lack of awareness, as women generally pay much more attention to their body and men are so much better at suppressing their emotions and ignoring the pain. However, in case of men, without the protective energetic function of the breasts, this lack of energy circulation in the chest leads to deeper issues, such as the loss of emotional sensitivity, disconnectedness, loss of emotional warmth and compassion, other psychological and physiological heart disorders. Whether you are a woman or a man, please continue reading, the solution to the problem is right here where you are now.
Restoring awareness, energy circulation and natural health of the breasts.
The word, Awareness, can be interpreted in various ways, and it’s important to understand the meaning behind it. Some of us might prefer the word Love or Total Presence, Attention, Connectedness, Sensitivity. What we want to achieve is total presence or total awareness of our body. Not temporarily, when we just look at a particular part, but permanently with only short moments of distractions when our focus shifts to external actions or into thoughts away from the present. From birth, through our lives, little by little we’ve been losing awareness of our body by focusing and giving more attention to external factors, objects and to our thoughts, imagination, desires and to the endless internal dialogue. It’s our great gift, to have imagination, creativity and conceptual thinking capabilities, however, if we overuse them, and allow them to replace our total presence in the now and in our body, they take our vital energy and health away from our lives.
And thoughts, visualizations and desires to have a healthy breast, or trying to distract ourselves from the present issues with positive emotions, leads to even further disconnection from our bodies by creating mental images separated from ourselves, unless, we learn to use those thoughts to bring our awareness back into our bodies and to where it’s needed the most.
The reversal of our health is a gradual process, but the reversal of our lack of awareness needs to happen right now, this very moment, is cannot be postponed and expected to develop on its own over time. Since most of us have established a habit of keeping our awareness on external things or in our thoughts, we can take advantage of it by setting up various mental triggers that would remind us of bringing the total presence, awareness and sensitivity back into our body.
- The first step is of course a healthy diet and a lifestyle that doesn’t create excessive distraction from the present and stress in your body and mind. There is much information available on the subject whether you go with an organic vegan diet and natural lifestyle of follow the views of traditional Chinese medicine, Qi Gong, Ayurveda, meditation, yoga, other traditional medicine approaches, it’s your choice. What’s important is the total awareness of how your everyday food and lifestyle choices affect your wellbeing and your body’s reaction to them. Please note that a negative reaction is not always a bad sign, most often than not, a sudden increase in sensitivity, pain, a breakout or a health crisis is caused by your body trying to clear out deep seated blockages that have been accumulating quietly over years or months.
- Bring physical awareness to the area by wearing natural, breathable clothes that don’t interfere with the blood and air circulation and don’t fixate your breasts in one position. Reduce the layers of clothing covering your breasts, let the skin feel the breeze in the air, the change in air temperatures, the texture of the fabric. Wear a neckless on your chest, especially if it’s a red or a pink gem stone of a moderate size. Don’t be shy of wearing a blouse with an open cleavage. Healthy attention from people, especially the opposite sex, brings as much awareness to our bodies as it does to theirs and is naturally healing.
- Take a note of your posture whenever you sit. In order for the energy in the chest to circulate freely, your back and neck need to be straight and slightly elongated, your chest and shoulders - open and relaxed, your lower back – decompressed. Feel the warm life energy rising up your back and expanding gently in your heart area, projecting forward from the heart and flowing down your arms to your fingertips and back to your heart. Feel the air entering your lungs with every breath and spreading all over your chest, down to your kidneys and all over your body carried by the blood. If you feel any tension in the spine, get up regularly and move your hips lightly, rotate your midsection and shoulders or walk a little. Listen to your body, don’t leave the discomfort unnoticed. Try to keep relaxed, expansive awareness in your breast and armpits even when you are working or in the midst of other daily activities.
- Massage your breasts the first thing in the morning, before bed or when taking a bath. Do it in full awareness, not letting the automatic habitual action to take over. Feel the touch on the skin and in the deeper tissues, fascia, tendons and muscles. Feel it on the tiny hairs covering your skin. Feel the heartbeat in your veins, the subtle temperature shifts, the energy flow between your fingers and your skin. Notice any tightness, pain or discomfort in your breasts without any fear, thought or judgement attached to them. They are a part of your body that didn’t get enough love and attention, so this is the time to give them that love and care. Massage the armpit area, the tendons and muscles there, your shoulders, down your arms to your wrists, palms and fingers, especially the inner crease of the wrists, the center of your palms, the pinky and the middle finger from the base to their very tips. That’s where the heart and pericardium energy channels go from the center of your chest and are largely responsible for the physical and energetic health of your heart and chest. If you have a loving partner, allow them to do it for you in full awareness from both parties. This practice can be equally healing for both partners. Use natural organic oils, creams or ointments. Never apply any chemical substances, or something that you wouldn’t put into your mouth, onto your body. It’s very important to make sure that you are actually fully present in your body with your mind and feeling undivided and not replaced by a memory or a mental projection of it as it often happens when any new activity gradually turns into an unconscious habit.
- Openly and kindly state your emotional pains and relationship concerns with your partner without creating a conflict or defending your personal view. Just stating your concerns and listening to their view on the issue with compassion is usually all that is needed for both partners to take appropriate measures to resolve heart and love issues without further complication.
- Avoid any medications, pain killers or drugs that suppress pain and reduce your physical or emotional sensitivity. Accept and relax into your suffering, be with it, give it love and compassion. Understand how much damage we cause ourselves by suppression our body’s natural reactions and external manifestations of internal issues.
- Health of your heart and breasts greatly depends on the health of your sexual organs and perineum as they have a direct energetic connection. Since we spend a big part of our lives sitting, those areas of the body rarely get enough love they need. Try to regularly bring your body and mind awareness to your sexual organs, gently flex or very lightly contract your perineum and gently rotate your hips when you are sitting, without turning it into a mechanical exercise. Give yourself a relaxing massage when taking a bath. If you have a partner, help each other restoring awareness, energy circulation and sensitivity in the area. Take short walks in the nature, go hiking often, practice Qi Gong exercises or mindfully rotate your pelvic, lower back and hip area regularly with total awareness of your body pains and discomforts, acknowledging and relaxing them.
- Bring art into your home or workplace, the kind of art that would bring your awareness to your chest, your heart, your body or your emotional wellbeing. A beautiful artwork in your bedroom that inspires you in a very specific way and opens up your heart and chest whenever you look at it, can be an invaluable addition to your practice of restoring your health through bodily awareness. In our Art and Photography Collections at MaximImages, you can find truly unique to your own taste, inspiring images and art prints, which have been created with love, passion and in full awareness of being in the present and embodying yourself.
If your journey of awareness is just starting, please keep in mind that our entire body needs equal love and care, and beyond that, the nature and the people surrounding you need it as much. Be kind, patient and compassionate to the world and everyone in it. We are the world, each and every one of us, we can’t live separately from the world and from each other, and neither can live fully without love and awareness of each other. Please don’t let self-awareness to turn into self-absorption. It’s only healthy when we are aware of ourselves in the picture of the entire world, and cannot be demanded or expected, it can only come from love and total presence in the current moment.
