Veronika Maxim
BIO
Veronika Maxim is a sumi-e artist located on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.
Self-taught through inspiration and observation, she creates delicate paintings and designs using traditional Japanese sumi-e painting materials. Sumi-e (墨絵) in Japanese stands for the ink painting, an ancient meditative and calligraphic art of capturing the spirit or the inherent nature (Qi) of the object rather than its photographic likeness.
Using the basic materials of brushes, freshly ground black ink and rice paper, the mastery of sumi-e seeks above all to achieve the harmony with the Universe through communion with multiple expressions of the Nature.
