Living in Suffering or Living with the Heart open
Would it be possible that one day we will be living without the mask of defensiveness and self-centeredness, with our hearts open and vulnerable, without the fear of suffering and insecurities? Can we imagine a day when we don't have to hide the bottomless emptiness inside of our hearts by distracting ourselves from it with endless external searching and activities which provide us with an escape from solitude and a fleeting sense of comfort and security? Will we ever be daring enough to look into that void of unknown inside of us without fear?
We change countries, houses, partners, jobs, interests, we seek thrilling and exciting activities, more knowledge, more information, various forms of entertainment and ways to spend our free time, trying to find that perfect place in life that will keep us happy and secure until the end of our days. And the search for such mythical place of comfort goes on and on. Might that be that suffering is just a natural part of life and there is no escape from it? We might be able to distract ourselves temporarily by change of our lifestyles or activities, acquire insurances from all unforeseeable situations, perfectly medicate ourselves from all possible diseases and their symptoms, but in the end we return to the same situation, we don't feel secure enough and we suffer from it. Even the attempt of trying to escape from suffering is bound to bring us suffering. Every time we escape, we create more and more boundaries limiting our own freedom, placing ourselves into a smaller and smaller cages, we keep barring ourselves from what causes us pain, and we keep searching for that little corner of safety and security.
What are we running from? Can we allow ourselves to live our lives equally treasuring the joy and suffering, action and stillness, togetherness and solitude and everything that every days brings us? Can we live without a plan, a purpose, a goal? Can we just give the world our own best every day, every moment, without maintaining our unique self-image and defending our reputation? Can we acknowledge and accept that emptiness inside of every one of us, live in full awareness of it, and allow it to shine through? Perhaps we can see our souls in it.
